Ruth Rosie: Biography

Current Projects

Traditional Music

I’m a great lover of folk and traditional music. A lot of my repertoire was learned directly from other singers: I believe the oral tradition is still very important and relevant, even in these internet-connected times. Most of my songs are traditional and come from England, Scotland and Ireland, with some from further afield. If you’d like me to sing at your folk club, festival, event, please get in touch for a chat.

1940s to 1970s classic covers

I regularly entertain at care homes and other private and public events, with well known classic pop, rock and country covers from the 1940s to the 1970s. If you would like a singer for your event, care home, fete or event, please contact me to discuss your booking. I’m always working on my repertoire so please feel free to make suggestions.

weddings

If you’ve heard my voice and decided that it would suit your big day, please get in touch for a chat about the music you would like. Often couples choose a mix of gentler folk songs and more upbeat, well known numbers to entertain their guests, and your set can be completely tailored to your wishes.

voiceover

I’m an experienced voiceover artist so if you think I could help on your project, please contact me. A voicereel is in production and as soon as I stop getting distracted by other projects, it’ll be ready to listen to!

Visual Art

I love creating visual art almost as much as I love singing. I’ve been commisioned to produce paintings and have had my art used in escape rooms and online. I make all my cover artwork and I’ve started work on a series of greetings cards. These, plus music merch, will be available on my Zazzle page as they become available.

technical

I’ve worked as a live sound engineer for bands and solo artists for many years. If you need a technical pair of hands, a good pair of ears and a problem-solving brain, please contact me.

record label – LITTLE CUPBOARD RECORDS

I started to publish and release music in 2021, which resulted in the formation of a small record label, called “Little Cupboard Records”. It was named after my small recording studio, set up in my understairs cupboard. It’s tiny, but it works!

TIDAL ROSES

Back in 1999 and 2000, I eagerly completed a variety of music tech and music business courses, creating various electronic music. In early 2021 I had the wild idea to release this music on the unsuspecting public, and Tidal Roses was born. You can hear my vocals are not as developed as my current voice, and you also get a taste of my teenage angst lyric writing. You’ve been warned. More Tidal Roses music is in the pipeline.

WRITING AND EDITING

What kind of creative would I be, if I didn’t say I was writing my first novel? Well, I am. As I’ve got plenty of projects on the go, this statement should be a true for a comfortingly long time. I also work as a freelance editor for the news pages of a tech website. In the past I’ve edited magazines and a very long time ago I used to write about beer.

Past Projects

PANDEMONIUM DRUMMERS

I was a drummer in the 2012 London Olympics Opening Ceremony. After many rehearsals, we performed to a live crowd of 62,000 and an estimated one billion TV viewers. This led to the creation of the Pandemonium Drummers, two Wembley Stadium appearances and many other performances including the Henley Festival and Go Local, a large London festival.

BORROWED TIME ROCK BAND

The world was a strange place in 2021 coming out of lockdown, and I’d been dreaming about singing some 90s classic rock with a band. Instead of going to a few karaoke nights to get it out of my system, I joined the established Crawley-based rock and blues band, Borrowed Time. I had three years of fun with a brilliant bunch of lads, leaving in 2024.

COUNTRY CHOICE DUO

I met Michael Commerford in Eltham many years ago, and we occasionally performed as a folk/country duo under the name “Country Choice”. It’s not beyond the bounds of possibility that we may one day play more gigs.

Past Gigs and Events

Once I have time to add all the info, you’ve be able to see what you missed. Or maybe you were there. If you’d like to hear about my gigs while they’re still in the future, please consider joining my mailing list.
